Sexual Problems

Premature Ejaculation

What is Premature Ejaculation ?
One explanation for Premature Ejaculation is being when the man ejaculates before his partner reaches orgasm most of the time, sometimes its described as some sort of time limit, for example, calling it Premature Ejaculation if the man reaches orgasm and ejaculates within two minutes of sex starting.
One thing that is common to most, is that it is felt that the man has a lack of control over when he ejaculates and often ejaculates before he wants to.

How Many Men are Affected by Premature Ejaculation?
Estimates show that as many as 40% - 50% of men will regularly experience Premature Ejaculation , with most men experiencing Premature Ejaculation at some time in their lives.
Premature Ejaculation is most common among men who are having sex for the first few times, and usually men can experience Premature Ejaculation during extreme levels of sexual stimulation or excitement.
What is Premature Ejaculation also called?
Premature Ejaculation is sometimes known as PE, premature climax, premature orgasm, rapid orgasm, uncontrolled male orgasm, rapid ejaculation, premature climax and rapid climax.
One man may last for two minutes after entering their partner before orgasm and ejaculation and be perfectly satisfied with that, whereas another man might last ten minutes, or twenty minutes, and still feel that he has ejaculated (orgasmed) before he wanted to.

Premature Ejaculation and Anxiety

Some men will feel that having Premature Ejaculation somehow makes them ‘look bad’, or may make them feel ‘less of a man’, and this can of course make them feel anxious about it.

Often, when a man is anxious about Premature Ejaculation, the Premature Ejaculation can be made worse by the anxiety, or can develop into other problems, such as Impotence, Erectile Dysfunction, a lack of self esteem or self confidence, or even depression.

What Causes Premature Ejaculation?

In my experience in treating men with Premature Ejaculation, the most common causes are psychological in nature, and often include:

Unresolved psychological conflicts
Underlying anxiety or stress
Performance Anxiety - that is to say, worrying about what a partner will think of their sexual performance
Worrying about past experiences
Fear of being judged
Anticipation of Premature Ejaculation happening
Growing up in an environment where sex was seen as “sinful” “dirty”, or where sexuality was often suppressed or used to induce guilt
